Here is how to find out what USB host controller your PC uses: Go to START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL
Double click the System icon, then go to the Device Manger tab Scroll to the bottom, and double click Universal Serial Bus Controllers The USB controller list will appear.

If your host controller is not on either list it is probably a newer host controller and should work fine.

The USB3 will work with PC laptops. It's important to note that with some "loaded" PC laptops, there may not be any IRQ's left, which the USB3 needs. Just make sure there is an IRQ available for the USB3 and it will work perfectly.
